El Campo
Yesterday we went out to the countryside, this is something that the doctors and nurses in the clinic do once a week. It was quite interesting but also difficult because they speak a mix of the native quechua and espanol that I coulden´t understand. First we went to the local elementary shcool where all of the children were weighed, measured and I examined there teeth. This consisted of removing huge deposits of plaque and baby teeth that were broken and infected. I brought about ten tooth brushes and I gave them to the kids that were in really bad shape, these children looked as if they had never seen a toothbrush before. We then walked a ways down to the local hospital where the half the town lined up to be seen by the doctor. These are some of the poorest people that I´ve ever seen but every seemed incredibly happy, I saw a lot of smiles with about 4 teeth.
